The only solution to the worrisome recurring overflow of Ala River in Akure, the Ondo State capital, is imbibing a disciplined culture of environmental cleanliness by residents who live along or near the banks of the River.

For many years, the annual overflow has caused untold suffering to the people of Akure, sweeping away many human beings and destroying properties worth millions. And yearly, government has been battling to check the recurring disaster by embarking on regular channelisation.

Speaking at the site of the commencement of mechanical channelisation of Ala River, the head of a waste to wealth firm, ZL Global Alliance, Basorun Abiola said the perennial menace can only be addressed if the residents imbibe basic culture of environmental cleanliness.

He further stressed the need for residents to buy refuse bags and baskets and put their dirts for easy evacuation instead of the habitual practices of throwing wastes into drains and Ala River especially when it rains.since the

A waste to wealth firm, ZL Global, has expressed to support the Ondo State Government in its commitment to make the state cleaner and greener through proactive management of the environment.

The Group Managing Director of ZL Global Alliance, Basorun Abiola gave the assurance during the mechanical channelisation of Ala River with an excavator at Eyin Ala, Ayedun Quarters in Akure, the state capital.

Abiola spoke through the Director of the Akure office of the firm, Prince Adebambo Faloye.

Ala, the major River that traverses the length and breadth of Akure perennially overflows her banks destroying properties and rendering many homeless due to unwholesome inhuman activities such as dumping of refuse in drainages and building structures on wet land.

To address this peculiar menace professionally in all the major cities across the state, and in line with global best practices, the Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu led Government had awarded the job of management of solid wastes to the company. And ever since them the company, ZL Global Alliance had hit the ground running.

Speaking at the site of the commencement of mechanical channelisation of Ala River, Abiola who spoke through the Director of the Akure office, Prince Adebambo Faloye, said the perennial menace can only be addressed if the residents imbibe basic culture of environmental cleanliness.

He further canvassed the need for residents to buy refuse bags and baskets and put their dirts for easy evacuation instead of the habitual practices of throwing wastes into drains and Ala River especially when it rains.

Speaking also at the site, the Head, Media office of ZL Global Alliance in Akure, Tobi Benjamin underscored the need for all residents to join hands with the Akeredolu administration in its quest to make the state investors friendly which can only happen in a cleaner and greener environment.

Benjamin who said his company will not let the Government of Ondo state down in its avowed commitment to make the state environment friendly said the company enjoined the citizens to support the company in its mandate to make the state clean saying that health is wealth.

It is instructive to note that before the commencement of Mechanical channelisation of Ala River, the company had commenced the desilting of the drainages in major cities across the state to stem the incidence of flooding and its attendant effects on human activities especially lives and properties.

As at last count before the Ondo state Government intervention through ZL Global Alliance, flood had taken over most parts of Akure, the state capital especially when it rains heavily thus destroying property worthy millions of naira while hundreds were rendered homeless in its wake.

It is the belief of many that, if the current intervention could be sustained through public and private sectors partnership, a lasting solution to the perennial scourge might be in sight.
