The Vice-Chancellor of Elizade University, Ilara Mokin, in Ondo State, Prof Kayode Ijadunola has advised Nigeria to adopt the Asian Tiger countries’ education model, which today enables those countries to rule the world.
Specifically, he urged Nigerian students to pursue that model of academic acquisition, which, according to him, is driven by Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.
A statement by the university’s Head, Public Relations, Mr. Williams Olufunmi, said the Vice-Chancellor spoke at the university’s matriculation ceremony, where he administered oath on no fewer than 532 new students.
The statement quoted Ijadunola describing Elizade University as a leading technology-driven Institution with most of its services digitized and real time via unfettered internet access for both staff and students.
According to the statement, the Vice-Chancellor said “the vison of the University is to be a globally competitive Institution that produces entrepreneurial, innovative and ethically sound graduates, asking students to be goal-driven and result-oriented.”
Besides, he “said the Mission of Elizade University is to endow students with appropriate skills and knowledge for the development of the nation and global competitiveness.”
The statement said: “He said the serene campus environment of Elizade University compares favourably to what obtains in the Ivy League schools across the world and is intentionally positioned to support meaningful scholarship and research among staff and students.
“Professor Ijadunola asked Elizade University matriculating students to allow the University to pass through them even as they pass through the University while warning against social media indulgence and the get-rich-quick syndrome and other vices which often derail many students from attaining their academic goals.
“Parents and students expressed delight at what they described as outstanding infrastructures, as well as the aesthetic, conducive teaching and learning environment in Elizade University.”
Elizade University was established in 2012 by Chief Michael Ade. Ojo, founder of Elizade Motors; and the University with five Faculties, currently runs 34 undergraduate and 20 Post-Graduate programmes that are fully accredited by the Nigerian University Commission, NUC.
The current Vice-Chancellor, Kayode Thadius Ijadunola, a one-time Provost of College of Health Sciences, Obafemi Awolowo University, and a Professor of Public Health and Community Medicine, added that “classrooms in Elizade University are equipped with modern multimedia teaching aids which facilitate teaching and learning via the i-learn Learning Management System where lecturers upload their lecture materials well ahead of class for the students.”
