Elizade University, Ilara Mokin, in Ondo State will partner the Nigerian Airforce Institute of Safety, (NAFIS). Ipetu-Ijesa, on operational health safety.
The university’s spokesman, Mr. Williams Olufunmi, disclosed this in a statement on Friday.
He said the programme, to be mutually inclusive, will see the Nigerian Airforce providing tactical training support for the University.
Elizade University will provide training at both Certificate, Diploma and Degree levels in specialized and identified areas of need to cover both pre-service and in-service trainings.
Olufunmi said these were some of the collaborations initiated during a courtesy visit to the University by the NAFIS Commandant, Air Commodore Friday Okon Bassey.
The Vice-Chancellor Prof Kayode Ijadunola, commended the Nigerian Airforce for its unique discipline as an elite military corps with exemplary professionalism.
He said the University was ready to synergise with the Nigerian Airforce to deliver on mandates that will positively impact the students, the entire nation, and the International Community.
Ijadunola said the health safety and environment curriculum would be developed and integrated into Science and Engineering degree programmes to give students a holistic training.
According to him, great emphasis will be laid on pre-service training to have a multiplier effect.
He added that the programme will be integrated into the students’ curriculum such that they will graduate with these skills.
The Vice Chancellor regretted that most organisations in Nigeria, especially the big multi-nationals do not take health safety and environment issues seriously.
He said the University will continue to provide the intellectual resource to galvanize the larger society in a broader spectrum to attaining sustainable development.
Air Commodore Bassey noted with admiration, the safety and security consciousness of the University.
He said its fantaustic ambience speaks volume about its preparedness to constantly and consistently produce Graduate and Post-graduate students who are ready-made for global competitiveness.
He enthused that this tallies with his dreams for harmony of knowledge and skills from the academia and the military professional background to propel sustainable development.
NAFIS, which is located in Ipetu Ijesa in Osun State, near the boundary between Ondo and Osun States, is about 30-minutes drive away to the University.
