The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Osun State Command, has deployed 1,750 personnel to strategic locations across Osun state to ensure a safe, secure, and peaceful Eid-ul-Fitr celebration
State Commandant Igbalawole Sotiyo, issued the directive during the first quarterly strategic meeting of the year with top security managers at the NSCDC headquarters in Osogbo.
This was confirmed in a statement released to newsmen by the Corps’ Public Relations Officer, ASCI Kehinde Adeleke.
According to Commandant Sotiyo, the deployment forms part of a deliberate, proactive security strategy to safeguard lives, property, and critical infrastructure during the Eid celebrations.
Officers have been strategically positioned at markets, recreational centres, critical national assets, and other public spaces to forestall security breaches and maintain public order.
“The festive season is a time for joy, but it also requires heightened vigilance. As Area Commanders and Divisional Officers, you are to take full charge of your areas of responsibility. You are expected to supervise and monitor officers deployed for this assignment, ensuring they remain professional, vigilant, and courteous in the discharge of their duties.
They are also expected to collaborate effectively with other security agencies to ensure a hitch-free celebration across the state,” Commandant Sotiyo said.
The Commandant called on parents, community leaders, and religious bodies to support the Corps’ security efforts by guiding youths and discouraging behavior that could threaten public safety.
He further congratulated Muslim faithful for completing the Ramadan fast and wished them a peaceful and joyous Eid celebration.
ASCI Kehinde Adeleke emphasized that the deployment highlights NSCDC’s ongoing commitment to public safety and order, advising residents to remain calm, vigilant, and to report any suspicious activities to security agencies.
“Our personnel are fully prepared to respond promptly to any situation that may arise during the festive period,” she said.
NSCDC’s Role in Festive Security
The NSCDC has, over the years, played a pivotal role in ensuring security during festive periods in Osun State and across Nigeria.
By collaborating with other security agencies, including the police and local authorities, the Corps has consistently maintained peace in markets, places of worship, recreational centers, and other high-traffic areas.
Authorities have also advised residents to avoid overcrowded locations where possible and be cautious when withdrawing or handling money in public.
Report any suspicious persons or activities immediately to security personnel. Also Support law enforcement by guiding youths and community members to follow safety protocols.
NSCDC’s proactive security measures have historically resulted in peaceful festive celebrations in Osun State, with minimal incidents reported during Ramadan, Christmas, and other high-profile public events.
These deployments underscore the Corps’ commitment to protecting residents, visitors, and critical national assets across the state.
As Osun State residents prepare to mark Eid-ul-Fitr, the NSCDC reassures the public of its unwavering dedication to maintaining security, order, and public safety, ensuring that the celebrations are memorable for the right reasons.
