As the Easter celebrations get close, Ondo State Government has warned market women and men in the state against any increase in the prices of commodities.
It warned through the Commissioner for Commerce, Industry and Cooperative Services, Mrs Lola Fagbemi, at a meeting with heads of markets, saying “it is callous and arbitrary for market women to unjustifiably increase costs of commodities on the flimsy excuse that festival has come.”
A statement by the ministry’s press officer, Ronke Olatigbe, said: “Mrs Fagbemi said government is making efforts at ensuring that life becomes more bearable to her citizens.
“According to her, road rehabilitation and other infrastructural development are of benefits to the society.
“She thanked women for supporting the Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akerdolu led administration on peaceful coexistence.
“The commissioner also appealed to the women to be conscious of their health by keeping their environment clean always.
“The iyaloja of NEPA Neighborhood market, Akure, Chief Mrs Adeniyi Beatrice and her counterpart from Oba Ile market, Chief Mrs Ologunmeta, promised to hold meeting with the market women on the need to maintain stable low prices especially during Easter.”
