Don’t be hasty to speak

Reflection for the day

By Olubunmi Adebayo

*Being slow to speak is certainly not foolishness. Though this is not necessarily seen like this in this generation. People think part of your success is how quick, and how loud a man, or woman can speak.*

*To this end, a lot of us are fond of saying what they don’t really mean at the heat of emotional tension or pressure.*

*Listen to the admonition from God on this :*

*James 1: [19]Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, _slow to speak_, slow to wrath:*

*This behaviour in which we are ready to pour out everything in us at any time is nothing short of lack of self-control, carelessness, and lack of discretion on the part of most people.*

*A man who is overwhelmed by things around him, and ends up saying just anything with his mouth is a dangerous fellow that should be encouraged to go for counselling.*

*In this life, one needs to be very careful of what one says when he or she is sad, excited, angry or disappointed.*

*This is because, whatever you say may likely have very serious consequences that a person may not have control over subsequently. Also note that there is power in the words of your mouth.*

*Several people have so acted in saying anything and had thrown away golden opportunities, or raised needless opposition against themselves or their interests. Some have by so doing :*

*1) Sent their life helpers away.*
*2) Some have ended up cursing their own children, or other beloved ones with their mouths.*
*3) Some have ruined long standing relationships.*
*4) Some have destroyed long standing visions.*
*5) Some have put in jeopardy a lot of things that are beyond their individual person.*

*Please ensure that you are not a victim of such a recklessly spoken words. Think deeply before you speak.*

*Several people are out there waiting for you to speak wrongly or hear you say some odd words from your mouth, and they will turn it into something else against you or your interests!*

*As our elders used to admonish us : “a word is enough for the wise”.*

*May the words of your mouth not hinder your progress or be used against you in life.*

Do have a great week ahead.
