Afrobeat superstar David Adeleke, widely known as Davido, has declared his intention to join the Accord Party, deepening the political realignment sparked by his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke.
The award-winning musician made the announcement on Tuesday via his verified X (formerly Twitter) handle, revealing plans to travel to Osogbo, the Osun State capital, to collect his party membership card at the governor’s residence, popularly known as Imole House.
“I will be live in Osun to pick up my @AccordPartyNG membership card @ Imole House Osogbo tomorrow… see you soon ACCORDINGLY,” Davido wrote, tagging Governor Adeleke.
Davido’s decision comes barely two weeks after Governor Adeleke formally unveiled the Accord Party as his new political platform ahead of the 2026 Osun governorship election, following his dramatic exit from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The governor announced his defection on December 9, 2025, at the Banquet Hall of the Government House, Osogbo, in the presence of national and state leaders of the Accord Party. He cited a prolonged leadership crisis at the national level of the PDP as the primary reason for his decision.
“I joined the Accord Party more than a month ago, precisely on November 6, after extensive consultations with stakeholders and opinion leaders,” Adeleke stated at the event. “We chose Accord because its philosophy of welfarism aligns perfectly with our administration’s commitment to the welfare of citizens and workers.”
Adeleke confirmed that he formally resigned from the PDP on December 1, noting that his resignation letter had earlier been submitted on November 4, 2025, to party officials in Sagba Abogunde, Ward 2, Ede North Local Government Area.
Davido had earlier reacted subtly to his uncle’s departure from the PDP by reposting the announcement online with the caption, “Jeje…”—a post that quickly went viral among fans and political watchers.
His planned appearance in Osogbo to obtain his Accord Party membership card has since generated significant buzz across social media platforms, with many observers describing the move as another example of the growing convergence between celebrity influence and Nigerian politics.
Political analysts note that while Davido has long been vocal about governance and youth participation, his formal association with a political party—especially one led by a sitting governor—could further energise youth engagement ahead of future elections in Osun State and beyond.
As Osun’s political landscape continues to evolve ahead of 2026, the Adeleke family’s consolidation around the Accord Party appears set to redefine party dynamics in the state, with entertainment, popular culture, and politics increasingly intersecting on a national stage.
