A man falsely parading himself as a soldier has been remanded by a Magistrate Court sitting in Modakeke, Osun State, at the Ile-Ife Correctional Centre, for alleged armed robbery, impersonation of a military officer, and unlawful possession of Nigerian Army uniform.
The 38-year-old suspect was arraigned by the Amotekun operatives on a three-count charge bordering on armed robbery, impersonation, and unlawful possession of military attire.
Court records show that the suspect had no legal representation, and his plea was not taken during the proceedings.
The magistrate who presided over the matter, described the charges particularly the use of military impersonation to commit robbery as grave and disturbing.
Subsequently, the court ordered the suspect’s remand and adjourned the case to July 28, 2025, for mention and further proceedings.
The suspect was reportedly apprehended after allegedly disguising as a Nigerian Army personnel to commit a series of crimes, including the theft of a motorcycle.
Amotekun Corps alleged that the suspect, dressed in full military camouflage, used the disguise to deceive and intimidate residents.
His most recent offense occurred in the Modakeke area, where he allegedly broke into the home of one Shola Michael and stole a motorcycle. Community members, however, grew suspicious of his actions and apprehended him before handing him over to Amotekun operatives.
During interrogation, the suspect was said to have confessed to the crime. Further investigations reportedly revealed a pattern of similar offenses committed while posing as a military officer.
