A TikToker and member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Ushie Uguamaye, also known as Raye, has apologised for saying Lagos is smelling.
Raye made the statement in a video while laying her mind bare against the economic hardship faced by Nigerians under President Bola Tinubu.
According to her, the video was part of a 30-day rant challenge to call the attention of authorities to the plight faced by Nigerians
The video generated reactions from many Nigerians, with some supporting her stance while others stated that her words contravened the Bye Laws of the NYSC.
In a new post, Raye expressed surprise that the challenge didn’t even go beyond Day 2 before she got more than the attention she was hoping for.
The corps member has now tendered an apology to those offended by the statement she made about Lagos, saying she didn’t mean to talk down on the state.
She wrote, “I want to first of all state that I am sorry to the people who were born and raised in Lagos State if you feel offended by what I said. I am sorry.
“But as a visitor here, I could tell there was a difference in the atmosphere and quality of air here. If the way that I put it triggered your emotions and the love for your birth state, I am sorry. I didn’t mean to talk down on your birth state.”
Reacting to the ”Lagos is smelling” statement, the Lagos State Government told our correspondent that those who hold such view are actually those who moved in and put pressure on the infrastructure.
Meanwhile, Raye was on Sunday summoned to appear before the NYSC Local Government Inspectors concerning her 30-day rant challenge.
However, when she arrived at their office on Monday, accompanied by three lawyers and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore, the LGIs were reportedly nowhere to be found.
