Compare eternity to a fleeting breath
Which is this life and all the things found on earth;
The things of this world are vain and but a dream
And should therefore not be held in high esteem.
Naught on earth can even last a lengthy span
Much less be carried beyond by any man.
What gain is there then to tie ourselves to them
And neglect our eternal Spiritual Realm?
It’s unwise to give earthly things all our time
For they alone make us commit sin and crime.
And when we fail to seek our spiritual goal,
We then must bring about the death of our soul.
Though our life on earth is not without an end,
It dictates where eternity we will spend,
And if because it’s short we waste it away,
A terrible fate is bound to come our way.
Two things then from life on earth we are to learn:
That we should with the beyond ourselves concern,
And that though earthly life is so brief and vain
It was placed at our disposal for our gain.
