Barely one year to the 2026 governorship election in Osun State, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has formally dissolved its structure in the state and pledged full allegiance to the Omoluabi Progressives, a leading political movement with roots in progressive ideology.
This merger comes on the heels of the national coalition group’s endorsement of the ADC platform as a unifying vehicle for opposition forces nationwide.
A statement on Thursday by Abosede Oluwaseun, Organising and Publicity Secretary of the Omoluabi Progressives, confirmed that a large crowd of ADC supporters converged at Oranmiyan House in Osogbo to mark the official beginning of the alliance.
He described the event as a celebration of unity, themed around the mission to “rescue Nigeria from the hardship inflicted by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Charles Omidiji, Osun State Chairman of the ADC, announced that all members of the party’s state working committee are on board with the decision to collapse their structure into the Omoluabi Progressives.
He stressed the coalition’s resolve to present a strong, united opposition and reaffirmed the ADC’s loyalty to Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, former Minister of Interior and a key figure in the Omoluabi movement.
Omidiji assured the public that the alliance would champion the interests of ordinary citizens and work toward meaningful change in the state.
Welcoming the ADC members, Alhaji Azeez Adesiji, Chairman of the Omoluabi Progressives, praised the bold step taken by the ADC leadership. He described the merger as a crucial step in building a formidable political force capable of challenging the status quo in Osun.
Adesiji vowed that the new alliance would not relent in its efforts to mobilise and restructure at the grassroots level ahead of the next governorship race. He also called on well-meaning citizens who desire a return to responsible governance to join the coalition’s ranks.
With the integration now official, members of both parties expressed confidence in their collective strength and shared vision to reclaim power and restore progressive governance in Osun State.
