The Poet's Corner

By Victor Emmanuel Uwah

It may be true, my Love, that you are old:

But with age your heart has learnt to be bold,

Since it now abhors those deceitful arts

Which are oft the delight of younger hearts.

It is in old age that experience lies –

Which made your heart through the years to be wise

To know what when in love that it should give

And how that what it needs it should achieve.

An older heart, my Love, as you possess

Is what I desire – I must confess –

Since it will not falter its steps or change

And will not heartache for true love exchange.

It is my delight that I had to choose

Your older heart that will not love abuse.

In no case will I ever make it cold

If it will not true love from me withhold.
