Celebrated writer, Taoheed Ajao passes on

Celebrated writer and a former member of the Editorial Board of Ondo State Government newspaper, The Hope, Mr Taoheed Ajao, has passed on.

Already, sympathisers who crossed his path while he was in the flesh, have taken to his Facebook wall to mourn his passage while speaking glowingly of their various experiences with him.

As gathered by The Radiance, Ajao who served as a senior special assistant to former Ondo State Governor Olusegun Mimiko on Public Affairs and Communications is died at his Ondo City home on Saturday morning at 69.

He would be buried according to Islamic rites, being a devoted Muslim.

Working mainly behind the scene in the Mimiko administration between 2009 and 2017, Ajao, a brilliant man with an admirable finesse, was the official speechwriter of the governor.

In his tribute, Otunba Damilola Oladimeji wrote: “With the greatest shock, we join the entire families of Ajao and Akinrinlola to announce the passing away of one of their precious sons, late Alhaji Taoheed Ajao (Leader of OCNE Council of Elders) who gave up the ghost early this morning and will be laid to rest today (Saturday, 30th January 2021) according to Islamic rites.”

According to him, “I will describe him as a successful grandfather, father, uncle, brother, cousin, very good leader with a formidable and competitive personality. We shall forever continue to remember your riddles and jokes with fun and humour which you usually brought into Ondo Connects New Era platform with very important relevant lessons of life to learn..

“LORD HAVE MERCY: We are going to mourn the death of trio and close childhood friends for more than five decades, which occurred within three years for many periods of time to come, as the vacuum they left behind will be very difficult to fill: Alhaji Taoheed Ajao, Pastor Seye Oladapo, and Chief Opeyemi Bademosi of blessed memory.

“We formally register our condolence message to his surviving wife and children. May Allah grant him Al Firdous … Amin”.


He said: “He was an astute communicator and pleasant man of decent attitude, whom I must confess openly that I have learned quite a lot from him with the lecture history about happenings of events in Ondo Township central society dated back to 1950s and 1960s”.

Born in Ondo Town on 1st July 1951, the departed Ajao attended Ansar-ud-deen Primary School, Iyemoja, Ondo; between 1958-63; He also attended St Joseph’s College, Ondo, between 1964 -1968; and Aquinas College in Akure for his Higher School Certificate (HSC) between 1969 – 70.

He obtained a University degree in Chemical Engineering from the United States of America in 1976 and returned to Nigeria in 1983 to work in different diverse fields of occupation just like his other contemporaries.

He served in the Civilian Administration of Governor Olusegun Mimiko from 2009 as Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs and Communication until 2017.
