The Catholic Administrator of the Catholic Diocese of Osogbo, Very Reverend Father Festus Komolafe has advised married couples to shun anything that could undermine the integrity of their marriages as God is never in support of divorce.
He warned couples against resorting to divorce or separation as a means of resolving marriage issues and challenges.
The cleric spoke during a Holy Mass he celebrated at St Benedict Catholic Cathedral to mark the institution of Holy Matrimony.
Noting that the Catholic Church does not and will not support divorce, he said that was not why the Lord instituted the Holy Matrimony.
He said man and woman were created for procreation and unity in love between a man and woman.
According to him, this is why a man leaves his father and mother and clings to his wife, to become one just like the Trinity of God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, but All in One God
The cleric said that there is no place in the Bible where Jesus Christ allowed couples to divorce or separate. He added that the Ten Commandments are very clear that man and woman should both come together to become one.
He admitted that many marriages are facing challenges, yet he said the Bible did not approve of divorce for married people.
Married couples in the Catholic Church have always been advised against anything that will cause them to separate or divorce.
Komolafe urged those having challenges in their marriages to seek reconciliation and the face of God Who instituted Holy Matrimony for men and women.
His words ” Divorce is not biblical, the Bible made it clear that anyone who marries a divorced woman has committed adultery with her. ”
Explaining why Moses granted permission in the Bible when people threw questions at him to test him, the cleric said it was because the people were unteachable and uncorrectable because of their stubbornness.
He maintained that good marriages exist when couples understand themselves and embrace God with love and understanding of the Bible about marriage.
The cathedral administrator who said broken marriages were part of the problems facing the society and the nation as a whole, said there are many hoodlums, thugs, and young men and women with questionable characters today as a result of broken marriages.
Stressing that not everybody is expected to get married, he said that some people have chosen other vocations. However, he described marriage as a good thing ordained for men and women. He advised all Christian couples to live in peace and love of Christ.
