Can we talk about Mary

Columnists

Who is this Mary? This Mary was A VIRGIN girl who lived in a city of Galilee called Nazareth. She was espoused to a man called Joseph, who was of the House of David.

One day, an Angel named Gabriel visited her with the most shocking news ever. Something unthinkable, unheard of, unbelievable, something spectacular and worthy of all attestation was about to happen. Something that would bring a permanent better change to the messed up situation man was in, was just about to happen.

The stories of many people were about to be rewritten. This everlasting event would not come to pass without THIS VERY CHOSEN MARY.

Was she the only virgin in her time? Maybe Not. Was she the only Mary in the whole of Nazareth? Maybe not. What made her different? She was HIGHLY FAVOURED, THE LORD WAS WITH HER, SHE WAS BLESSED AMONG WOMEN.

How many Marys are reading me now? I want us to bear this in mind, God knows us all true and true. He knows who we are and who we can be at any given situation. God knows who would say Yes or No to His call to action. Look at this, God wanted a Mary that would readily say … \’be it unto me according to Your Word\’.

This matter is meant to challenge a particular ill in our society today. I hear some people, young and old say something like \’it is no longer fashionable to be a virgin\’. This is a lie from the pit of hell. So many people want to be saved today by the Blood of Jesus Christ. If it were not for a Mary that was found of God for that duty, a Mary with that Immaculate Conception, a Mary that bore \’that Holy Thing\’ (Luke 1:35).

So many young people have missed it and so many are out there queueing up to miss it for ever.

I saw many people who troop in to the shopping malls during Christmas celebration to buy new rags(clothes) to add to the ones they already had, all in the name of the spirit of the season. But what beats my imagination is how hypocritical this can be as I see these same people in the so called, so glorified spirit of the season, commit sacrilege and lose their VIRGINITY over and over again.

Many young people I have spoken to on this subject, lost their virginity on Christmas eves, what an irony!!! God has need of our simplicity, our naivety and sometimes, our crudity. God has, over the centuries, worked with inexperienced people and inexperienced animals. He does not need your experience as He needs your availability. He is capable of turning you into what He originally created you to be. Only make yourself available to Him.

HOW EASY WAS IT FOR MARY? I hear a lot of people complain about how this or that is not easy. It was not easy for this Mary, she had to cope with all the name calling, all the castigations, all the aspersions, and much more. Above all, Mary was going to bear the pain of the beloved son\’s death on the cross. Tell me, which one of these is easy?

Talk about this Mary with your family, and you will see that soon you will be talking about that Joseph too.

This matter is taken from the Bible Book of Luke, Chapter one.
