Buhari meets security chiefs

Smarting from some reported success recorded in the onslaught against insurgents, terrorists and bandits, the security chiefs are meeting today with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja to give him briefings on the nation’s security situation report.

Some members of the groups who have been unleashing violence on people in some parts of the country have recently been renouncing violence and surrendering to the authorities, according to reports.

The meeting will also update the president on security developments and formulate plans to bring a decisive end to the challenges. 

Attending the meeting are Vice President Yemi Osinbajo; Chief of Staff to the President, Prof Ibrahim Gambari; Secretary to the Government of Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha; National Security Adviser, Major Gen Babagana Monguno (rtd); Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen Lucky Irabor; Chief of Army Staff; Lt-Gen Farouk Yahaya; Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Isiaka Amoo; and Director-General, Department of State Services (DSS) Yusuf Bichi.

At the closed-door meeting, President Buhari is also expected to receive briefings from the Service Chiefs, and others including the Minister of Defense, Bashir Magashi; Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyema, and Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola.

This is the first of such a meeting since the president’s return from the United Kingdom last Friday after an 18 days stay during which he attended the Global Education Summit (GES) and as well undertook medical checks. 

Those in attendance are Vice President Yemi Osinbajo; Chief of Staff to the President, Professor Ibrahim Gambari; Secretary to the Government of Federation, Boss Mustapha and the National Security Adviser, Retired Major General Babagana Monguno.

Others are Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor; Chief of Army Staff; Lieutenant-General Farouk Yahaya; Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Isiaka Amoo; and Director-General, Department of State Services (DSS) Yusuf Bichi, Ministers of Defense, Bashir Magashi; Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, and Interior, Rauf Aregbesola.
