Be careful who you trust

Reflection for the day

By Olubunmi Adebayo

*Several individuals have lost their heads and their glorious destinies in the journey of life by the reason of the people they trust.*

*Just consider the following fellows that were terribly betrayed by their trusted allies – friends, family members, neighbours, colleagues, etc :*

*1) JOSEPH was betrayed by his own brothers. I am sure you wouldn’t entertain any fear if your father should send you to your senior brothers? But Joseph’s own brothers betrayed family trust and sold their brother into slavery in Egypt – Genesis 37:18-28.*

*2) JOB by his friends. While going through the most painful experience of his life, what Job’s friends – Eliphaz and Bildad could do was to accuse him of sinning. They ended up not giving him the expected support a man in that situation should get -Job 2:11-13, 4:1-5:27.*

*3) JESUS by Judas Iscariot. One of the critical disciples among the 12 disciples of Jesus Christ was Judas Ischariot. The very Treasurer of the ministry. He betrayed Jesus for 30 pieces of silver – Matthew 26:14-16, 47-50.*

*4) DAVID by Ahithophel : Ahithophel was one of David’s trusted advisers. He ended up joining Absalom’s rebellion against David – 2 Samuel 15:12, 17:1-4.*

*5) SAMSON by Delilah : Delilah, a woman Samson loved so much, betrayed him to the arch enemies of Israel – the Philistines – Judges 16:4-21.*

*These examples show how terrible people are – betrayal can come from unexpected and unpredictable places.*

*Be careful who you trust please.*

*Several people have foolishly trusted the next fellow, but never lived to tell the tale. Some even go to the ridiculous extent of trusting a sworn enemy! Samson did with a lady called Delilah from the camp of his arch-enemies – The Philistines! The question is how can you trust a sworn enemy for Christ’s sake?*

*Always be careful about who you trust.*

*Know that your closest friend can betray you, just as your most trusted ally can go to any extent to engage in treachery with you. Life is a place of betrayal.*

*Learn to watch your back, and always call on God to watch your back and protect and preserve you.*

Do have a great working week ahead.
