The family of the late veteran Nigerian comic actor, Baba Suwe, has announced the burial arrangements of the popular comic actor who died on Monday.
Making the announcement on behalf of the family, a son of Baba Suwe, Adesola Omidina, also an actor, who took to his Instagram page said that his father’s interment would hold on Thursday, November 25, 2021.
In a statement e-signed by Adesola, on behalf of the family, the interment will commence at the deceased’s residence at 26, Oluwatimiro Street, Ewu Elepe Bustop, Ijede Road, Ikorodu, Lagos, by 10 am prompt.
Adesola also stated that the final funeral ceremony for his 63-year-old deceased father would be announced at a later time.
The statement said that Baba Suwe is survived by children, grandchildren, his aged mother, and other family members.
Meanwhile, Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Tuesday mourned the veteran actor who he said put smiles on peoples faces.
He stated this in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Gboyega Akosile, as he condoled with the family and friends of the late actor.
Mourning the indigenous actor, Sanwo-Olu said, “The late Babatunde Omidina, popularly known as Baba Suwe was a bundle of talent, who used his God-given gift to advance the course of mankind. As an actor, he put smiles on the faces of many people through his comic roles in different movies and television drama series.
“No doubt the death of a loved one is usually painful because it is irreparable but we must always take solace in God, especially if the deceased had lived a fulfilled life, just like the late Babatunde Omidina, who was a celebrated actor during his lifetime.
“Baba Suwe’s death had left a vacuum that would take some time to be filled in the entertainment industry. I pray that God will grant the late Babatunde Omidina eternal rest and grant the family, colleagues, and associates the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
Also, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, has mourned the passing of the actor.
The Speaker, in a statement, implored his children and family to find solace in how Baba Suwe used his God-given talent to influence the lives of others positively.
He noted that the deceased left behind a vacuum too difficult to fill.
Born Babatunde Omidina, Baba Suwe became popular after he featured in Iru Esin, produced by Olaiya Igwe in 1997. He also featured in and produced several Nigerian movies such as Baba Jaiye Jaiye, a movie that featured Funke Akindele and Femi Adebayo.
In 2011, he was accused of cocaine trafficking by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, an allegation that was described as false and defamatory by the ruling of the Lagos State High Court.
The actor’s health battle was made public in 2019 when he was said to be battling an undisclosed sickness.
Baba Suwe was confirmed dead on Monday by his family at the age of 63.
The news of his death was confirmed by the President of the Theatre Arts and Motion Picture Producers Association of Nigeria, Bolaji Amusan, also known as Mr Latin.
Mr Latin said: “It has been confirmed that Baba Suwe is dead. I just got off the phone with his son who confirmed that the actor is dead. I don’t have much details about his death.”
