Flights at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport have been rescheduled as a result of the protest by the National Association of Nigerian Students, Monday.

As reported by The Punch, the inability of the travelers to enter the airport caused the development.

The domestic terminal, also known as the General Aviation Terminal and terminal two operated by Bi-Courtney Aviation Service Limited of the Airport and the MMA were shut down by the students, which prevented passengers from entering the airport. For this reason, some local and international flights were re-scheduled.

NANS stormed the MMA area Monday morning in protest against the lingering strike action by the Academic Staff Union of Universities.

The protest attracted the presence of the African Action Congress presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, who joined the students and assured them of support.

NANS is asking the Federal Government to resolve the ongoing strike action by ASUU, which began on February 14, 2022.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, has, however, scheduled a Tuesday meeting with the leadership of the ASUU led by its President, Professor Emmanuel Osodeke, on possible solutions to the lingering issues.

In its own version, titled “Travelers groan as NANS blocks Lagos Airport over ASUU strike,” The Guardian reported that travelers are currently at the receiving end as the protesting students barricade roads leading to the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos.

The protest is in continuation of their demands to end of the ongoing industrial action by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

The action of the students who defied the heavy downpour, caused gridlock, leaving many travellers stranded and alighting from their vehicles to trek to the airport.

The students carried placards chanting Aluta songs to express their displeasure over the actions of the Federal Government.

Meanwhile, Police from the Lagos State Police Command is on the road to protect and maintain order.

Also, despite the ordeal, the travelers commended the students for coming out.
