The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), under the leadership of Comrade Arikawe S. Ade, has extended New Year greetings to its members while expressing concern over the continued non-payment of outstanding salary arrears by the Ondo State Government.
In a New Year message to members, the Union acknowledged the hardship faced by staff, particularly during the festive season, as a result of the government’s failure to fulfil its commitment to clear the arrears.
According to the Union, the leadership has actively pursued all available channels to resolve the issue, including a direct visit to the Governor at his country home, where assurances were given that the arrears would be paid before the end of the year. However, ASUP noted with regret that the promise has yet to be honoured.
The Union stressed that while it remains committed to dialogue and constructive engagement with the government, the welfare and interests of its members remain paramount. It disclosed that it is currently reviewing appropriate steps to ensure that the issue receives the urgent attention it deserves.
ASUP further emphasized the importance of unity, cooperation, and solidarity among members as the leadership determines the best course of action going forward. Members were encouraged to forward constructive suggestions and advice privately to the Union leadership or raise them during the general Congress.
Reaffirming its commitment to protecting the welfare, dignity, and professional interests of members, the Union assured staff that it would continue to pursue a lasting resolution to the salary arrears.
The leadership concluded by wishing members a peaceful, productive, and fulfilling New Year.
