The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has condemned a petition reportedly submitted to the United States Embassy against its campaign Director-General, Wole Oke, describing it as frivolous, attention-seeking and an abuse of diplomatic channels.

In a statement issued on Sunday by the party’s Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, the APC criticised a member of the Accord Party for petitioning the American Ambassador over alleged comments made by Oke, who is the Director-General of the campaign committee of the party’s governorship candidate, Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji.

The petition, dated April 9, 2026, reportedly accused Oke of making statements capable of inciting violence ahead of the August 15 governorship election in the state.

Reacting, the APC described the allegation as baseless, insisting that Oke, a serving member of the House of Representatives, is a law-abiding politician who has consistently upheld democratic principles.

The party argued that taking such a complaint to a foreign mission undermines Nigeria’s sovereignty and bypasses appropriate legal and security institutions.

“It is absurd and disheartening that a respected lawmaker could be falsely accused of promoting violence. If there are genuine concerns, the appropriate authorities to approach are local law enforcement agencies, not foreign diplomats,” the statement read.

The APC further alleged that the petition was politically motivated, claiming it was driven by personal ambition and frustration by individuals seeking electoral advantage ahead of the polls.

It maintained that Oke remains a credible and influential political figure in Osun State, particularly in the Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency, dismissing attempts to tarnish his image.

While urging political actors to focus on issue-based campaigns, the party cautioned against actions capable of heating up the polity or misleading the public.

The APC reaffirmed its confidence in its governorship candidate and campaign structure, expressing optimism about victory in the forthcoming election.
