The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the main opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) have continued to trade blameS over last Saturday’s APC ward congresses held in Ekiti.
In a statement on Tuesday, by its State Publicity Secretary, Raphael Adeyanju, the PDP condemned the APC for its alleged inability to conduct or preside over any peaceful, free and fair democratic contest without violence.
It described the ruling party as a nest of blood-sucking monsters who do not discriminate between the opposition and their own members when thirsty for blood.
The APC ward congress in the state last Saturday was marred with violence across the 177 wards in Ekiti State, leading to the death of one man named Oluwaseun Olajide and serious injuries inflicted on many people.
But Ade Ajayi, the Publicity Secretary of the Ekiti State chapter of the APC, dismissed the PDP’s claims, describing the opposition party as a “meddlesome interloper”.
The APC image maker said the PDP had no reason to interfere in the internal activities of the ruling party.
Ajayi added that going by records and history, the PDP remains the most violent party in Ekiti, citing the recent congress conducted by the opposition to justify his accusation.
He said: “What is PDP’s business in our operations? The PDP was ignorant of the happenings in APC, so they could decide to act out of tune. The death occurred after the congress. They shouldn’t forget that it happened during streets jubilation, so they should bury their heads in shame.”
