A governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress in Osun State, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, has dissociated himself from the recent killing of a person at Ikire, in Irewole Local Government Area of the state.

He did this through the Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO) Movement, which described the allegation of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) linking him with the crime, as a malicious and baseless attempt.

The group, in a statement on Saturday by the Coordinator of AMBO Media Fronts, Adebayo Adedeji, condemned the PDP’s claim that its principal’s camp was involved in the death of one Adesile Seebu.

It said Seebu with others attended a road flag-off event organized by the Deputy Minority Leader of the Senate, Senator Lere Oyewumi, at Ikire before a violent clash erupted among the PDP loyalists.

According to the statement, “Reliable reports indicate that in a violent struggle for supremacy and over the sharing of iron rods being excavated by a caterpillar deployed for the road project handled by Senator Oyewumi’s contractor, the PDP thugs engaged in a bloody clash among themselves—an incident that reportedly led to Seebu’s death.”

It said the Ikire incident had  no connection with the All Progressives Congress (APC) or the AMBO Movement, insisting that its members had no event or activity in the area on the day of the clash.

The group stressed the ” violence had nothing whatsoever to do with Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji or his campaign organization. The AMBO Movement had no reason to be in Ikire, and our supporters were not involved in any wa.,” .

It described the PDP’s accusation as criminal, defamatory, and politically motivated, accusing the opposition party of a deliberate attempt to malign  Oyebamiji’s reputation ahead of the 2026 governorship election.

“Asiwaju Oyebamiji is a man of peace who neither harbours nor associates with criminals or thugs. Throughout his extensive governorship consultation tour across the 30 local government areas of Osun State, not a single violent incident was recorded,” the statement added.

It recalled that the only recent political violence associated with the group occurred at Apomu, where its supporters were allegedly attacked by PDP thugs. Several of the attackers, the group said, were arrested and remain under police investigation.

Also, it accused certain “powerful figures within the PDP” of attempting to derail investigations into the murder of Hon. Remi Abass by creating distractions and false narratives around Seebu’s death.

It alleged that the propaganda effort might be aimed at diverting public attention from the ongoing prosecution of PDP members and chieftains facing murder charges in Abuja in connection with the Abass case.

Calling for police intervention, AMBO Media urged the Osun State Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Gotan, to launch a comprehensive probe into both the circumstances surrounding Seebu’s death and the circulation of what it described as a malicious and misleading statement by the PDP’s spokesperson, Hezekiah Oladele Bamiji (HOB).

“We call on the Commissioner of Police to investigate not only the killing itself but also the falsehoods being spread to smear the good name of Asiwaju Oyebamiji. AMBO is loved by the people of Osun and does not need any thug to win the 2026 governorship contest.”

The statement reaffirmed that the movement remains focused on its peaceful political engagements and will not be distracted by what it called “the antics of desperate politicians.”

“Let the evil characters who are making fortunes out of brigandage and terror be eternally pricked by their conscience,” it added.

Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state has expressed deep concern over the renewed wave of violence at Ikire in recent weeks, culminating in the tragic killing of a young resident, Adesile Seebu.

In a statement signed by the Party’s Director of Media, Hezekiah Oladele Bamiji (HOB), the PDP described the incident as “a painful and heartbreaking moment for the community and all peace-loving citizens of Osun State.”

The party decried what it called the deteriorating security situation in Ikire, which it alleged was being orchestrated by a supporter of the AMBO campaign team, Akinkunmi Alabi, popularly known as Ojuyobo.

According to the statement, Ojuyobo—who was declared wanted during the 2023 general elections for violent activities—has resurfaced and is now allegedly linked to several renewed assaults on residents.

The PDP also expressed shock that an individual with such a “troubling record” was recently sighted in the company of the Managing Director of NIWA during his visit to Irewole/Isokan Local Government, an event the party claimed was marred by harassment and assault on innocent residents.

“The attacks represent a deliberate assault on the peace of Ikire and an affront to the fundamental right of its people to live without fear,” the PDP stated.

The party lamented that while the people of Ikire have shown commendable patience and restraint, their safety continues to be threatened by elements believed to be loyal to the AMBO group, whose activities appear “emboldened and unchecked.”

“We are raising a heartfelt Save-Our-Soul call on behalf of the people of Ikire. This is not about politics; it is about human life, community peace, and the dignity of people who simply want to live in harmony,” the PDP said.

The statement further urged the Nigeria Police Force, DSS, NSCDC, and other security agencies to immediately intervene, arrest the perpetrators, and restore calm before the situation degenerates into a full-blown communal crisis.”

The PDP also called for a thorough investigation into the alleged network supporting Ojuyobo’s violent activities and insisted that no individual or group should be shielded from accountability.

“At a time when Osun is enjoying renewed peace and purposeful governance, it is unacceptable for criminal elements to plunge communities into chaos. The people of Ikire deserve justice for Adesile and protection from further aggression. The time to act is now,” the statement added.
