– Basiru becomes secretary

The All Progressives Congress on Thursday named ex-Kano State governor, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje as its new National Chairman.

Also it appointed the former spokesperson for the ninth Senate, Senator Basiru Ajibola, as its new National Secretary.

Both replaced Senator Abdullahi Adamu and Otunba Iyiola Omisore respectively.

The party’s NEC took the decisions barely an hour after President Bola Tinubu arrived at the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja venue of the meeting.

Tinubu arrived at the Congress Hall of the hotel surrounded by stern-looking security operatives suspected to be officers of the Department of State Services at about 11.35am.

Following the announcement of their appointments, supporters of Ganduje and Basiru broke into a wild jubilation that almost disrupted the programme temporarily.

Among the dignitaries that arrived early for the NEC meeting were Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello; former governor of Osun State and pioneer chairman of APC, Chief Bisi Akande; acting National Chairman of the party, Senator Abubakar Kyari; former Governor of Kano State, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje and Basiru.
