Amotekun hails as court jails theft convict in Osun

An Osun State magistrate court sitting in Ilesa has sentenced a 23-year-old man, Emmanuel Ivarim, to one year imprisonment for conspiracy and theft.

His Worship, Magistrate A.A. Ayeni, who delivered the judgment found the defendant guilty on all four counts under Charge No. MIL/201c/2025, and sentenced him to one year imprisonment on each count, with the sentences to run concurrently.

The convict had been arrainged before the court over series of coordinated thefts reported between May and June 2025 in Ijebu-Jesa, a peaceful community in the state.

Victims had  reported break-ins resulting in the theft of valuable items, including gas cookers, television sets, mobile phones, a Bajaj motorcycle, and other personal belongings.

Amotekun operatives, acting on multiple complaints, had launched an intensive investigation.

Their efforts led to the arrest of the convict as a prime suspect.

He was charged to court on a four-count charge of conspiracy to commit felony and stealing, and during his arraignment on Monday, July 1st, he reportedly pleaded guilty to all the charges.

The prosecution, led by Mr. Oyedele Akintayo, legal officer of the Amotekun Corps, presented evidence establishing how Ivarim, alongside unnamed accomplices still at large, allegedly systematically carried out residential burglaries.

After reviewing the facts and the defendant’s reported guilty plea, the court had adjourned for sentencing.

On resumption, Magistrate Ayeni sentenced the convict to one-year concurrent imprisonment .

Reacting to the conviction, Chief Adekunle Isaac Omoyele, Commander of the Osun Amotekun Corps, praised the judiciary for its commitment to justice and collaboration with security agencies.

His words, “This conviction sends a strong message that Osun State will not tolerate criminal elements.“

Our operatives will continue to act swiftly and decisively to secure our communities.

“We commend the judiciary for its firm stance and fair handling of this case.”

The Commander emphasized that the Amotekun Corps remains resolute in its mandate to protect lives and property across Osun.

He highlighted ongoing efforts to enhance intelligence gathering, expand patrol operations, and strengthen community engagement.

Also, the corp’s state spokesman, Yusuf Idowu Abass, stressed the need for continued collaboration between citizens and security operatives.

He urged residents to report suspicious activities promptly, stressing that community support is vital to the success of grassroots policing.

Abass said, “This case exemplifies what can be achieved when citizens, security agencies, and the judiciary work together.

“We encourage all residents to remain vigilant and proactive in safeguarding their neighborhoods.”

The corps recommitted itself to securing the state, promoting peace, and ensuring that the rule of law prevails statewide.
