Amotekun Corps in Osun State has debunked the reports alleging that it has started arresting members of the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
Reactiing to a report titled “Osun Amotekun Begins Massive Arrest of APC Members in Atakumosa”, the Corps described the allegations as malicious, misleading, and entirely false.
The report had claimed that traditional chiefs in Itapa, Atakumosa East Local Government Area, were arrested and detained by operatives of the security outfit.
However, in a statement issued by the Corps spokesman, Mr. Yusuf Idowu Abass, the agency dismissed the allegation as the handiwork of perceived disgruntled elements bent on politicizing security matters.
It said, “We categorically state that no member of the Amotekun Corps arrested any community chief in Itapa or any part of Atakumosa East.
“The allegations contained in the said report are entirely false, baseless, and aimed at undermining the integrity, neutrality, and professionalism of the Osun Amotekun Corps”.
Also, the statement said that the publication appeared to be a deliberate fabrication intended to mislead the public and incite unnecessary tension and panic within the community.
“We urge the general public to disregard this false and misleading report in its entirety. The Osun Amotekun Corps remains steadfast in its lawful duty of safeguarding the lives and property of all residents, regardless of political affiliation, religious belief, or social standing,” it added.
Abass also cautioned media outlets and individuals against spreading unverified and harmful information, stressing that security matters should never be trivialized or politicized.
