Commanders of the Southwest Security Network codenamed Amotekun Corps have vowed to forestall any further terror attack in the region.
The Corps Commanders in Ondo, Oyo, Ekiti, Osun and Ogun States gave the pledge when they visited the scene of the June 5 attack on St Francis Catholic Church, Owo, Owo local government area of Ondo State where at least 40 persons were killed and many others were wounded.
They said they would further synergise to ensure adequate security is provided in the region.
Ondo State Commander and Chairman of Amotekun Corps in the Southwest, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, who spoke on their behalf, said they were on ground to assess the security situation and proffer own solution with a view to ensuring such an attack did not happen again in the South West region.
He appealed to residents to be vigilant and should not believe that security was limited to law enforcement agencies alone.
According to him: “We feel very sad about this attack, because these ‘animals’ invaded this ever peaceful town and massacred defenceless worshipers. it is a sad moment for us.
“To Ondo State people, we want to reassure them that the executives of all the western states are determined to continue to ensure your security of lives and property are guaranteed.
“We want you all to be rest assured that even the federal government and all the security agencies are not leaving any stone unturned in apprehending the perpetrators of this dastardly act and ensuring that we prevent a repeat of it”, he stated.
“We need information everywhere to assist us in apprehending these people and prevent reoccurrence of this type of incident”.
His other brother Commanders said the attack was to test their will and determination.
Bishop of Ondo Catholic Diocese, Most Rev. Jude Arogundade, who received the Corp Commanders at his residence, charged them to fish out the perpetrators
He urged them to work together for the peace, harmony and stability of the South West States.
The Olowo of Owo, Oba Ajibade Ogunoye III, who commended the Amotekun Commanders for effectively securing the Southwest region, said they would burst more crime if the federal government allowed them carry sophisticated weapons.
Oba Ogunoye appealed to the Federal Government to transform the Amotekun Corps to State Police for effective control of crimes and criminality in the region.
