Osun Amotekun Corps commander, Adekunle Isaac Omoyele, has congratulated the newly elected executives of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Osun State Council, urging closer collaboration between the media and security agencies to curb criminal activities across the state.

He made the call in a congratulatory message issued on Wednesday in Osogbo through the Corps Public Relations Officer, Yusuf Idowu Abass, following the successful conduct of the NUJ state election held on Tuesday.

The Amotekun boss praised members of the union for organizing what he described as a peaceful, transparent, and credible electoral process, which led to the emergence of a new leadership team to pilot the affairs of the council.

He specifically congratulated Adeyemi Aboderin of the Osun State Broadcasting Corporation on his election as Chairman; Olalekan Akindoju of Rave 91.7FM/Western Spring Television as Secretary; and Saheed Adegboye of the Federation Chapel as Treasurer.

Omoyele described their emergence as “well deserved,” noting that the trio and other members of the executive bring vast professional experience, dedication, and a proven track record that will strengthen the union’s role in promoting ethical journalism.

The Corps Commander emphasized that effective partnership between the media and security agencies—particularly community-based outfits like Amotekun—remains a critical strategy for tackling crime and enhancing public safety.

According to him, the evolving security landscape requires timely information sharing, responsible reporting, and public enlightenment, roles in which journalists play a pivotal part.
“There must be strong synergy between security agencies and the media to effectively tackle crime and criminality across Osun State and its environs,” he said.

Omoyele observed that the journalism profession is currently undergoing rapid transformation driven by digital innovation, changing audience expectations, and increasing ethical demands. He said these realities require visionary leadership and a strong commitment to professional standards.

He expressed confidence that the new NUJ leadership possesses the competence and integrity to strengthen unity among journalists, uphold ethical practice, and advance developmental journalism in the state.

Reaffirming the commitment of the Osun Amotekun Corps to a cordial working relationship with the media, Omoyele described journalists as indispensable partners in community engagement, public enlightenment, and security awareness.

He added that the corps looks forward to deeper cooperation with the NUJ under the new leadership to ensure accurate information flow and improved public trust in security operations.

The Amotekun commander wished the executives a successful tenure, expressing optimism that their administration would build on past achievements while charting a progressive path for journalism practice in Osun State.
