Designs for the dual carriage-way of Akure to Ikere road project has been completed by the Federal Government.
Ondo State Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu (SAN), made this known during his thank-you-tour to Iju, in Akure North local government area of the state.
The Governor disclosed that the road contract would be awarded as soon as the 2019 budget is approved; adding that the Minister of Works, Power and Housing, Babatunde Fashola has assured that the contract would be awarded before the end of the first term.
He said: “The work we are interested in embarking on is the Akure to Ikere dual carriageway, but we cannot because it is a federal project.
“Earlier, we made several efforts to get the road done. Even Fashola intervened and suggested that since Ikere was a dual carriageway, then Akure to Ikere should also be a dual carriageway.
“I accepted the suggestion, hence the rehabilitation of the deplorable portions of the road.
“And when this is done, you can leave here and work in Akure conveniently and this will decongest Akure and everybody can come and live here. The drive to Akure will not be more than just ten minutes.”
He said that his administration has completed the Asphalt overlay of Ogbese market.
His words: “Ogooluwa Street road project, also in Ogbese has also been completed, we have also rehabilitated the federal highway bad portions and drainages along Ogbese-Akure-Eleyewo.
“We have also repaired so many of our boreholes, most important is the one at Ayede/Ogbese.
“What we did there was to dig a commercial borehole and we reticulated it to about 50 fetching points. That model was being studied by other states sent by the Federal Ministry of Water Resources.
“We have extended it to other communities like Ilu-Abo, Oke Agunla, Eleyewo, Owode, Sasa. Besides this, we have also renovated various primary schools.”
The Okiti of Iju, Oba Amos Farukanmi commended the Governor for his numerous life-changing projects in the area, especially the water project reticulated to other communities in the local government.
He also appreciated the Governor for his efforts at ensuring that the deplorable Akure-Ikere road is constructed.
