Akeredolu: Ondo assembly confirms governor’s return from medical leave

The Ondo State House of Assembly has confirmed the return of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu from his three-month medical leave abroad.

Confirming this development to The Punch, the Majority Leader of the state’s House of Assembly, Hon Wole Ogunmolasuyi, said the governor is already in his Ibadan, Oyo State residence.

According to Ogunmolasuyi: “We thank God the governor has returned to the country. He landed in Abuja and moved straight to Ibadan.”

The governor’s wife, Betty had earlier confirmed the news of his return in her X (formerly Twitter) handle where she posted his picture in an aeroplane and wrote simply, “Homebound” with emojis of a finger pointing at a house, indicating homecoming.

Also, a source reportedly said the governor would arrive in Ibadan, Oyo State, and stay in his personal residence for a few days before heading to Ondo State.

According to the source: “With what I heard, he would stay in Ibadan for a while before coming to Ondo State to resume office. Tomorrow (Friday) we will make everything official.”

Before his departure to Germany for a medical vacation, Governor Akeredolu had informed the Ondo State House of Assembly, about his trip and also handed the power to his deputy, Mr Lucky Aiyedatiwa, in an acting capacity, as required by the Constitution.

A week ago, the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Richard Olatunde, in a statement, hinted that his boss was still recuperating in Germany and not yet back, but said the governor’s return would be made public whenever he returns.

The statement read, “Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, CON, has not yet returned to the country. The governor is currently still on a medical vacation in Germany.

“We would like to assure the good people of Ondo State and Nigerians in general that the governor’s return will be widely publicised.’’
