Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, has congratulated veteran journalist, Mr. Martins Oloja, on his appointment as the Managing Director/Editor-in-Chief of The Guardian.
This was contained in a statement signed and made available to journalists in Akure, yesterday, by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Richard Olatunde, saying that the appointment was earned by dint of hard work and perseverance.
Akeredolu, who described the appointment as well-deserved, “having served the same organisation meritoriously for over two decades, said: “No doubt, Oloja has contributed immensely to building an alluring and rich brand in the Guardian Newspapers, with dedication and commitment to the tenets of journalism of unbiased reportage, educating the people and setting agenda to drive overall growth and development in the country.
“Oloja has over the years shown that he is indeed a watchdog for the people. His pen has spoken truth to power. He has continued to project the media as a strong Fourth Estate of the Realm.”
While thanking the media organisation for finding Oloja worthy of the new office, the governor said the new managing director had by dint of hard work and passion carved a niche for himself in the media space in the country.
“On behalf of the government and the good people of Ondo State, his state of origin, I congratulate Martins Oloja. We are proud of his exploits in the media world, and we are happy to identify with him,” Akeredolu stated.
Management of the flagship of Nigerian media, The Guardian Newspaper Limited, had announced Oloja’s appointment following approval by the Board of the company last Thursday.
In a statement to staff, the management said Oloja, who retains his role as the Editor-in-Chief, has been a resourceful member of the organization for the past twenty-two years during which time he has served in various capacities.
His former positions between 1999 till date include title Editor, Editorial Board member, Chief Editorial Writer and Executive Head and Bureau Chief, Abuja.
All associates for the Managing Director and other management staff were urged to offer their support and ease the execution of the transformation plans of the organization.
Oloja was the second Editor of the premier newspaper in Abuja, The ‘Abuja Newsday’.(1988-1993)
For over three decades he has served as reporter, writer, editor, editorial writer and manager.
He is a graduate of the universities of Lagos and Liverpool, UK.
On Monday, March 23, 2020, Oloja assumed duties as the Editor-In-Chief of the paper with a promise to enhance the brand equity of the publication.
