Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has appealed to the state’s residents to shun the planned August 1st nationwide protest against the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration over the hardship in the country.
He spoke through his Special Adviser on Union Matters, Comrade Bola Taiwo, at a peace meeting with three former chairmen of the Nigeria Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, including Oba Solomon Adejayan, Chief Oladutele Obayoriade, and Chief Jacob Adebo, and other members of the union.
The governor noted, however, that peaceful protest is not a bad action, he alleged that the latest planned protest was targeted at destroying lives and properties considering the recent Kenyan experience and EndSARS protest.
He appealed to NURTW members to shun the protest in the interest of the state and her people.
Taiwo, quoting his boss said, “We don’t want any pandemonium in our state; bye-bye to any protest; we should not join any protest in this state; we want peace in Ondo State and South West in general.
“During the EndSARS protest, a lot of properties were destroyed in this nation, and we look at what is happening in Kenya, it is devastating, and that is why we are engaging the members of the NURTW; we don’t want that here.
“Mr. Governor has given a directive that there should not be any protest that will lead to violence in the state, and that is why we are appealing to everyone in the state not to join the planned protest.”
Ademola Odudu, a member of the union, said, “We have addressed all our members not to join the protest that could lead to any breaking of laws and orders because we are not troublemakers, we are not thugs and we are very responsible.
“The protest will destabilise our constitutional government, and we don’t want that in Ondo State. we have realized that the planned protest is to destabilise the government of President Bola Tinubu.
“In Ondo State, for instance, we have a good governor, and he is a man of peace, who is making sure that we have peace in the state, and we have addressed all our members not to be involved in the protest.
“And whoever is caught among the members of the NURTW who participate in the planned protest will be sanctioned accordingly.”
Speaking at the meeting, the state chairman of the union, Comrade Ademola Odudu, said that members of the union would not join the protest.
Odudu added, “We have addressed all our members not to join the protest that could lead to any breaking of laws and orders because we are not troublemakers, we are not thugs, and we are very responsible.”
