Chairman of Okitipupa Local Government in Ondo State, Om’oba Abayomi Adesanya, has described last Saturday’s accident that claimed lives of at least nine persons from the local government as a black day for the Ikale people home and abroad.
The victims who were mostly teachers, died in the fatal road crash which occurred at Ijebu-Ife, along Ore – Shagamu express way
A statement by the Chairman’s Press Secretary, Mr Martins Fasusi, said that he spoke during a condolence visit to the bereaved families.
Also, he condoled the Lagos unit Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, in Okitipupa, Mr. Obafemi Emeruwa over the death of the driver, Mr. Boluwaji Aladekahunsi who drove the vehicle involved in the unfortunate fatal accident.
While commiserating with Mr. Akinwumi Agidi over the death of his wife, Mrs. Olasinbo Agidi at their residence in Okitipupa, the Council boss in his condolence message wrote: ” It is tragedy that befalls us in Okitipupa Local Government and the whole Ikale land.
“It is a very sad moment for us. We pray that God Almighty will grant the families and friends of the deceased to bear the loss “
Responding, Agidi described the incident as a rude shock, saying that his wife would be greatly missed because of her supportive role.
Mrs. Olasinbo Agidi was until her death a staff of the local government in the community development unit.
Adesanya was also at the General Hospital Okitipupa where he prayed for speedy recovery of the victims who are still in the hospital.
He enjoined motorists and all road users to avoid reckless driving during these “ember” months which he said is the major cause of untimely death.
The statement said: “It is with heavy heart that the Chairman Okitipupa Local Government, Omo’ba Abayomi Adesanya receives the news of the death of the accident victims who hailed from the local government area that lost their lives over the weekend while traveling on a social function.
The Council Chairman finds the incident very unfortunate especially when the victims were mostly teachers, and a staff of the local government who have played significant role in their chosen carers.
I convey my deepest condolences to the families of those who lost their loved ones in the ghastly motor accident that occurred over the weekend.
It is a tragedy that struck us in Okitipupa. The development is extremely sad. I share the pains of this moment with the entire families and friends of the victims.
All sons and daughters of Ikaleland and Okitipupa local government condole with you. May God grant the bereaved families and friends the fortitude to bear this heartbreaking loss”.
