Okitipupa Local Government Council Area Chairman, Omo’ba Abayomi Adesanya on Wednesday received group of eminent elders in his office where issues facing the council area were extensively discussed.
Eminent Elders Forum is an assemblage of apolitical group of retired elder statesmen from Ikale land who have distinguished themselves across various field of human endeavours, led by Comrade Goke Iwamotigha.
Others include former Okitipupa Correspondent of The Hope newspaper, Mr. Smile Igbekele, Chief S.A. Ogayemi, Chief Adefeyiju Ogunmola, Prince Idowu Juba, Mr Adebayo Williams, Sir Wumi Akinmoju, Com. Tola Olowoselu, Prince Remi Malumi, Sir Kris Karigidi(KJW), Mr Ilusemiti Augustine, and Hon. Serili Akinyemi.
While welcoming the elders, Adesanya thanked them for finding time to visit him in spite of their age and busy schedule.
In his words, “I am highly honoured and elated to receive you this afternoon.”
“I think this is the largest group of prominent elders I will be receiving since I became the Chairman of this local government.”
“This occasion gives me an opportunity to air my views and discuss some of the activities and challenges of this local government”.
He expressed his strong determination and political will to make positive changes even if it means stepping on toes.
“I am in a hurry to make positive impact in the lives of the people and we would not be deterred, no matter how short my stay here may be. I will give a midas touch to every important sector”, he reiterated.
He said, “Ikales are known for their very rich culture and traditions”. He however reminded this august gathering that these must not be allowed to suffer neglect.
He described environmental sanitation and cleanliness as one of the greatest challenges his administration will continue to cope with and must be given prior attention.
On the area of the lingering power outage, Adesanya said the State Government under the leadership of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu in collaboration with the Federal Government agencies is doing everything possible to restore power to all the affected communities.
He however, called for patience and equally appealed to the elders to help in sensitising and checkmating the activities of miscreants who specialise in stealing and vandalising electrical equipment installation
One of the highlights of this meeting was the naming of Ilutitun Broad Street after the late Oba Daniel Ikusika Juba, the Rebuja of Osooro Land, a close associate of Late Chief Obafemi Awolowo.
The council boss saw this as a recognition of the late monarch’s immense contributions, ideologies and principle during his reign.
He said the late monarch spent the greater part of his life promoting the culture and tradition of the people at all times.
He said it would be noble for the people not to forget him and his ideals in a hurry.
