The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State has described the inclusion of Governor Ademola Adeleke on the ballot for the coming election as a major setback for anti-democratic forces, and much-desired progress for the state and her people.
It congratulated residents as preparations intensify for the August 8, 2026 governorship election, describing the final publication of candidates as a pivotal moment in the state’s democratic process.
The party, on which platform Adeleke rode to power before he recently decamped to Accord, due to unabated internal crisis in that party at the national level, expressed these in a statement on Monday by its state chairman Sunday Bisi.
It said Adeleke’s inclusion on the ballot by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) marked a decisive setback for what it called anti-democratic forces allegedly seeking to sideline the governor.
The party also said the development vindicates its decision to align with the Accord political platform, describing the move as necessary to protect the state’s democratic aspirations amid internal challenges at the national level.
According to the PDP, Governor Adeleke deliberately avoided being drawn into national political disputes, choosing instead to focus on governance and service delivery in the state.
Reaffirming its commitment to the election, the party pledged to mobilise its structures and supporters across all the state’s 30 local governments to secure what it described as a decisive victory for the governor.
The statement further urged residents to remain vigilant and stay focused on consolidating what it called the gains of the current administration, expressing confidence that the path toward “a greater Osun” remains on track.
