Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has vowed that those behind the killings at Akinlalu community in Ife North Central Local Government, would be made to face the full wrath of the law.

He said that towards this end, he had directed the Chairman of the Amotekun Board, Wale Abass, to collaborate with the police in Abuja for a proper investigation.

The governor gave the pledge on Monday when he paid a condolence visit to the community following the alleged killing of some residents by personnel of the Amotekun Security Corps.

Four indigenes of the community were reportedly killed on September 30 allegedly by members of the Amotekun Corps, who claimed to be responding to a distress call about an attack on Akinlalu by hoodlums. The death toll later rose to seven as some of the injured victims died in the hospital.

Adeleke, who commiserated with the bereaved families, expressed deep sorrow over the incident. “I was pained when this happened,” he said.

“I was in America when it happened; I came here directly to tell you how touched I am.”

Speaking at the palace of the traditional ruler of Akinlalu, Oba Oloyede Aborishade, Adeleke added, “I am so sorry that this kind of thing happened. I brought everybody here to tell you that you are important.

“I have not even rested to commiserate with you. I want to greet you, our mothers; I know that you are in support of this government. You showed a sense of gratitude for the road our government constructed.

“I want us all to observe a minute’s silence for those who lost their lives to the unfortunate incident. All those that are affected, I want to assure you all that they will face the full wrath of the law.”

Responding to demands by the youth for the suspension of the state’s Amotekun Commandant, Adekunle Omoyele, Adeleke said: “We are working on it. I have directed the chairman of the Amotekun Board to go to Abuja in order to ensure a thorough investigation.”

He further said, “I have ensured that those who are in the hospital are well taken care of. The ventilator they are requesting for the victims is underway. Their care is my priority at this time.

“I thank the youth for their steadfastness and priority for peace.”

Earlier, the Youth Leader of Akinlalu, Musibau Adeboye, appealed to the governor to ensure that justice is served. He demanded the immediate suspension of the Amotekun Commandant and a transparent investigation into the incident.

According to him: “We earnestly implore Your Excellency’s administration to ensure that a swift, thorough, and fully transparent investigation is concluded, and that all individuals found culpable for the heinous attack are apprehended, prosecuted, and held fully accountable under the law.

“We appeal for immediate and comprehensive state assistance in securing just compensation for the affected families who suffered tragic losses, and for full medical and psychological support for all injured individuals.

“We strongly recommend a temporary suspension, withdrawal, or complete restructuring of the Amotekun Corps’ operational deployment in Akinlalu until genuine peace is restored and confidence in the security apparatus is fully rebuilt.”
