Osun State, Governor Ademola Adeleke has approved the repair of 11 out of the state’s 22 Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs).
The vehicles, now broken down, were bought by the Rauf Aregbesola administration.
A statement by the governor’spokesman, Olawale Rasheed, said the military-grade vehicles, abandoned for over four years by the immediate past Gboyega Oyetola administration are now nearing the final stages of refurbishment.
“The governor, worried by the deteriorating condition of the APCs, directed that they be rehabilitated in phases, with the first batch of 11 carriers now almost fully restored,” the statement read.
The vehicles are visibly marked with the inscription “Rehabilitated by Governor Ademola Adeleke,” and plans are underway to commence the second phase of refurbishment once the initial batch is completed.
“In line with my vow never to abandon inherited projects, I have approved the phased rehabilitation of the Armoured Personnel Carriers. This initiative will strengthen security and surveillance across the state,” Governor Adeleke was quoted as saying.
He further emphasized his administration’s commitment to inclusive governance: “We are interested in politics without bitterness. Our goal is to develop Osun and ensure that no state asset is allowed to waste away.”
The refurbished APCs will be handed over to the Osun State Police Command to support the ongoing fight against crime and enhance public safety.
