Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has relaxed the curfew imposed on Ifon, Ilobu, and Erin Osun as peace returns to the communities.

Movement restriction within the communities will now be from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. daily, effective tomorrow Sunday, May 25.

The returning peaceful atmosphere coincides with the joyful preparation by residents for the coming Eid El Kabir celebration and noticeable improvement in community relations.

Adeleke relaxed the curfew in a statement on Saturday by the Information and Public Enlightenment commissioner, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi, in Osogbo, the state capital.

He said the previously enforced 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. curfew has now been relaxed as a result of the “near total return to peace” in the communities.

While commending the efforts of community leaders and residents in restoring harmony, the governor urged the traditional rulers of the three towns to ensure their subjects remain law-abiding.

He said that any monarch whose subject is caught disrupting peace will be held accountable under the law.

His words, “Following the near-total return to peace in the communities of Ifon, Ilobu, and Erin Osun, I am pleased to announce that the curfew will now be from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. starting Sunday, May 25.

“I commend the people of the three towns and all stakeholders for the progress made so far.

“However, I have directed security operatives—including the Army, Police, DSS, and Civil Defence—to maintain a 24-hour surveillance in the affected areas.”

Adeleke also uextended Eid El Kabir greetings in advance to both Muslim and non-Muslim residents of the state, urging everyone to continue to uphold peace and unity.
