Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to the safety and welfare of members of the National Youth Service Corps serving in the state.
He gave the assurance while receiving the newly deployed NYSC State Coordinator, Ekeng Ita, during a courtesy visit at the Government House in Osogbo.
Adeleke emphasised that the security of corps members remains a top priority for his administration, noting that adequate measures have been put in place to protect them throughout their service year.
He added that the state would continue to provide a conducive environment for corps members to live and work.
The governor also commended the NYSC scheme for its role in promoting national unity and integration, stressing that it has continued to contribute significantly to national development by exposing young graduates to diverse cultures across the country.
He further urged corps members who may participate in the forthcoming governorship election in Osun State to discharge their duties with diligence, integrity and a strong sense of responsibility, highlighting their critical role in ensuring free, fair and credible polls.
Adeleke also pledged sustained support for the NYSC, assuring that his administration would continue to respond to the needs of the scheme as resources permit, in order to enhance its impact.
Earlier, Ita outlined some of the challenges facing the scheme in the state and appealed for government intervention, particularly in improving the welfare of corps members.
He also called for an upward review of corps members’ allowances, noting that better welfare packages would boost morale, productivity and commitment to national service.
The NYSC coordinator, however, commended the governor for his continued support and expressed optimism that the partnership between the state government and the scheme would be further strengthened.
