In a gesture demonstrating his administration’s commitment to workers’ welfare, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has presented cheques totaling ₦672,987,699.94 to families of insured workers under the Group Life Assurance Scheme (GLAS) and the Personal Accident Insurance Scheme (PAIS).
The beneficiaries include 151 workers who died while performing their official duties, as well as individuals who sustained injuries in the line of duty. The financial support is aimed at cushioning the impact of the loss on the families and helping them cope with the sudden vacuum created by the demise of their loved ones.
Presenting the cheques on behalf of the Governor at a ceremony held at the Ministry of Finance, the Commissioner for Finance, Hon. Adeola Olusola Ogungbile, explained that the scheme designed to provide death-in-service benefits for the state workforce—had been suspended under the previous administration of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, but was revived by Governor Adeleke as part of his broader welfare agenda for public servants.
The Commissioner noted that since its reintroduction, the scheme has enjoyed uninterrupted implementation, reflecting the Governor’s compassion and dedication to the wellbeing of the state’s workforce.
He added that Governor Adeleke has consistently paid insurance premiums to Valanis Insurance Group and Capital Express Assurance Limited, ensuring the prompt processing and settlement of verified claims.
Hon. Ogungbile reaffirmed that the administration will continue to fund the programme as part of the Governor’s five-point agenda, stressing that workers’ welfare remains a pillar of government policy.
He urged beneficiaries to make prudent use of the funds and channel them towards essential needs of the dependants left behind by the deceased officers.
