Adeleke consoles Makinde, Ibadan people over Olubadan’s passage

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has commiserated with his Oyo State counterpart, Seyi Makinde, and the people of Ibadan over the passage of the Olubadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin.

He described the monarch’s passing as a profound loss not only to Ibadan but to the entire Yoruba nation.

Adeleke, in a statement by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, Governor Adeleke also consoled the royal family, Olubadan in Council, Oyo State Government and people, and the entire Yoruba people

He said, “Oba Olakulehin was a revered royal father whose brief reign was defined by dignity, wisdom, and a deep commitment to the progress and unity of his people.

“He embodied the finest qualities of Yoruba royalty—leadership, cultural pride, and unwavering love for his community.”

The Governor noted that although Oba Olakulehin’s time on the throne was short, it left a lasting impact on the traditional institution of Ibadan and the larger Yoruba heritage.

Adeleke said, “His passing at the age of 90 marks the end of an era and the closure of a remarkable chapter in Ibadan’s history.

“He will be remembered for his peaceful disposition, selfless service, and dedication to the welfare of his people.”

On behalf of the Government and people of Osun State, Governor Adeleke offered heartfelt condolences to the government and citizens of Oyo State, affirming solidarity with them during this moment of mourning.

His words, “Oba Olakulehin remained, until his last days, a symbol of continuity and cultural wisdom,” the Governor said. “His transition is a collective loss to the Yoruba people, whose values and heritage he upheld with honour.”

“May the Almighty grant the late monarch eternal rest among his forebears and comfort the people of Ibadan in this difficult time.”
