Adegbonmire commends Tinubu, security agencies for rescuing abducted Oyo pupils, teachers

Senator Adeniyi Adegbonmire, SAN, who represents Ondo Central Senatorial District, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the nation’s security agencies for rescuing the kidnapped pupils and teachers of some Oyo State schools.

Their release after spending 56 days in captivity, in a coordinated security operation spearheaded by the army, was announced on Friday, sparking off spontaneous jubilation across the country.

The freed victims were among the 39 pupils and seven teachers who were abducted by gunmen at their schools near Ogbomoso in Oyo State about two months ago. The gunmen killed one teacher while struggling to escape. They also beheaded one of the kidnapped victims.

Reacting to the release in a statement on Saturday by his media office,  Adegbonmire described the successful operation as “a testament to the renewed commitment of the Federal Government to safeguarding the lives and property of Nigerians.”

He praised the gallantry, professionalism, and resilience displayed by the security agencies, whose coordinated efforts ensured the safe return of the victims.

In his words, “the rescue has rekindled hope among Nigerians that the ongoing efforts to tackle insecurity across the country are yielding positive results. ”

The senator  noted that the Federal Government’s continuous investment in intelligence gathering, inter-agency collaboration, and operational capacity is gradually restoring confidence in the nation’s security architecture.

He particularly praised President Tinubu “for providing purposeful leadership and unwavering support to the armed forces and other security agencies, urging them to sustain the momentum until criminal elements are completely dismantled across the country.”

According to the statement, “While expressing joy over the safe rescue of the victims, the lawmaker extended his heartfelt sympathies to families and communities that have suffered from the activities of kidnappers and other criminal elements.

“He called on Nigerians to continue supporting security agencies with credible information that would aid intelligence gathering and crime prevention.

“Senator Adegbonmire reaffirmed that security remains a collective responsibility and expressed confidence that, with sustained government commitment and citizens’ cooperation, Nigeria will overcome the current security challenges and achieve lasting peace and stability.”
