The trial of owner of Hilton hotel, Ile-Ife, Dr Rahmon Adedoyin, and its six staff over alleged murder and interference with the corpse of a Master’s Student of Obafemi Awolowo University, Timothy Adegoke, was adjourned on Monday by Osun State Chief Judge, Justice Oyebola Ojo.
According to The Nation, the adjournment was hinged on the health condition of the second defendant, Magdalene Chiefuna, who slumped following intermittent coughing while the counsel from the Ministry of Justice and defendants’ counsel were arguing the propriety of a human rights activist, Femi Falana, SAN taking over the prosecution.
Justice Ojo gave short adjournment so that the second defendant can be attended to.
In its own version, Vanguard reports that proceedings into the murder trial of Adegoke has been stood down following sudden sickness suffered by Magdalene Chiefuna, the second defendant in the matter.
The matter was slated for the defendants to open their defence today following the closing of the prosecution case in March.
At the resumed trial around 9:05 am learned silk for the defendants and the state counsel was arguing over the propriety of handing over the case to the Human rights lawyer, Mr Femi Falana, who was in court when the second defendant suddenly slumped.
She was coughing repeatedly before court clerks and corrections officials rushed to her rescue.
Presiding Judge, Justice Adepele Ojo quickly adjourned the matter shortly to allow the defendant to be attended to.
