Factional chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Hon. Nafiu Bala, has dismissed as fake a resignation letter circulating in his name, describing it as a fraudulent creation by desperate political actors bent on destabilising the party.
In a statement issued on Sunday by Dr. Christopher Okechukwu, Director of Media and Public Affairs in the Office of the National Chairman, the party clarified that the document dated May 18, 2025, was neither authored nor signed by Bala and lacked the official insignia of the ADC.
Dr. Okechukwu emphasized that Hon. Nafiu Bala has not resigned and remains the constitutionally recognized Acting National Chairman of the party, in accordance with provisions of the ADC constitution.
He condemned the letter as a “desperate ploy to undermine the party’s legitimate leadership.”
“The National Leadership of the African Democratic Congress, under the legitimate and constitutionally recognized Acting National Chairman, Hon. Nafiu Bala, categorically denies the existence of any authentic resignation letter,” the statement read.
“We are exposing a malicious plot orchestrated by former National Chairman, Chief Ralph Okey Nwosu, in collaboration with certain power-hungry elements attempting to hijack the party through undemocratic means.”
The statement described the document as “fabricated, fraudulent, and maliciously circulated” by individuals seeking to sow confusion and create disunity within the party ranks.
It also accused the group, led by Chief Nwosu, of submitting unauthorised documents — including the fake resignation letter — to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in an attempt to illegally seize control of the ADC’s leadership structure.
The party leadership called on INEC to reject such forged materials and urged the commission to continue to recognize Hon. Nafiu Bala as the party’s authentic leader.
Furthermore, the party appealed to its members across the country to remain vigilant in the face of these provocations and called on law enforcement agencies to investigate the forgery, which it said was an attack on Nigeria’s democratic process.
“The African Democratic Congress under Hon. Nafiu Bala remains a constitutionally backed platform committed to strengthening democracy and promoting national development,” Dr. Okechukwu concluded.
