Prince Abiodun Adetimehin, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate for Ekiti South Federal Constituency in the 2019 House of Representatives election, has declared that the ADC is rapidly emerging as Nigeria’s most viable opposition party and a credible alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a statement on Sunday in Ado-Ekiti, he described the recent influx of credible Nigerians into the ADC as a promising development, signaling renewed public confidence in the party.

“The movement is encouraging,” he said. “The migration of people with credible identity into the ADC in recent weeks is a positive sign. The future of the ADC is bright, and we are steadily building a platform of sustainable hope and development for Nigerians.”

Adetimehin did not hold back in his criticism of the APC, particularly in its conduct during recent by-elections. He alleged widespread electoral malpractice, including vote buying.

He condemned what he described as the harassment of ADC’s national secretary, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, during a campaign in Ogun State.

“The last by-elections clearly showed that the APC cannot win under a free and fair process. Reports of vote buying were rampant, and the harassment of our national secretary on his way to join the campaign in Ogun was not only undemocratic but deeply troubling. It’s an assault on democracy and must be condemned,” he stated.

The former federal constituency candidate urged ADC members across the country to remain united and focused, warning against internal divisions that could derail the party’s progress. He emphasized the importance of resilience and strategic collaboration ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“Internal wrangling will only slow us down. What we need now is unity, dedication, and a shared commitment to growing the ADC into a formidable force. With a united front, we can become Nigeria’s leading opposition party and win the 2027 presidential election,” he asserted.

Adetimehin also praised the leadership of the ADC in Ekiti State, singling out the efforts of Hon. Ilesanmi Omotayo, the state chairman, and Prof. Kolapo Olusola, a former deputy governor, for their contributions to party growth.

“The dedication of leaders like Hon. Omotayo and Prof. Olusola is commendable. Their efforts, alongside the commitment of other stakeholders, are non-negotiable to the growth of ADC in Ekiti. We are clearly on the right path,” he said.

Adetimehin expressed confidence that the ADC would capitalize on what he termed the “failures of the APC-led government” to position itself as the party capable of delivering true governance, empathy, and sustainable development to the Nigerian people.
