A House of Representatives candidate for Ekiti South Federal Constituency I underthe banner of African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the 2019 general elections, Hon. Abiodun Adetimehin (popularly known as Omolu’Abi), has described the ADC coalition as a credible alternative and necessary intervention to rescue Nigeria from deepening socio-economic crises.

Reflecting on his political journey within the ADC,he recalled his emergence as the party’s consensus candidate in the 2019 elections, where he placed third.

Adetimehin, in a statement affirmed that his commitment to the party has remained unshaken, driven by his passion for Nigeria’s development.

He said, “The ADC has always stood on a foundation of integrity, pedigree, and commitment to quality leadership. That was the basis of my nomination in 2019, and the same principles informed the choice of Dr. Wole Oluyede as the party’s governorship candidate in the 2022 Ekiti election.”

He described ADC as a bold response to the alleged failures of the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led federal government, which he said has plunged Nigerians into deeper hardship.

“It is heartening to witness respected leaders like Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, Chief Rotimi Amaechi, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, Mr. Peter Obi, and other influential stakeholders collapsing their structures into the ADC. This signals a fresh start for our democracy and a renewed sense of hope for the Nigerian people.”

Adetimehin commended the ADC national leadership under Chief Ralph Nwosu for its open-minded approach in welcoming new members and building a broad-based coalition focused on national progress. He said the ADC is fast becoming the rallying point for Nigerians in search of a credible opposition and political direction as the PDP continues to struggle for relevance.

He urged the coalition not only to focus on unseating the APC in 2027 but to also remain a strong voice in holding the current administration accountable.

“We must put Nigeria first. We cannot sit by and watch this country sink further into insecurity, economic mismanagement, and despair. Good leadership is the foundation of every successful nation — and Nigeria needs that now more than ever.”

Expressing concern over the growing hardship across the country, he criticized the APC’s economic policies, particularly the removal of fuel subsidy without adequate mitigating measures.

“Nigerians are worse off today than they were in January 2023. What was the point of removing fuel subsidy if it only brought more suffering? Ask any household — the pain is real, regardless of the statistics being pushed by the government.”

He also cautioned against the rise of divisive politics, calling on leaders to protect Nigeria’s unity and rich diversity.

“The beauty of our country lies in its cultural richness and plurality. Undermining that for political convenience is dangerous. Nigeria is Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa, and every other group put together — we must strengthen that bond, not tear it apart.”

Adetimehin called on well-meaning Nigerians to get actively involved in the political process by joining credible platforms like the ADC, participating in elections, and shaping the future of the country.

“The ADC Coalition is open to all patriotic Nigerians. Let us stop sitting on the fence — it’s time to speak up, vote, contest, and demand responsible leadership. Nigeria belongs to us all.”

He expressed confidence in the ADC’s ability to produce competent, visionary candidates committed to democratic ideals and genuine service to the nation.
