The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has condemned what it calls an alarming surge in politically motivated violence linked to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State, warning that the ruling party is steering the state toward chaos ahead of the 2026 governorship election.

In a strongly worded statement signed by its State Chairman, Hon. Ilesanmi Omolayo, the ADC described the recent violent attack in Ikere-Ekiti as a reckless abuse of democracy and a calculated move to silence the opposition.

According to the statement, armed thugs reportedly invaded a political meeting last weekend, inflicting injuries on attendees, vandalizing vehicles and motorcycles, and carting away personal belongings. Several people were said to have sustained serious injuries in the incident.

It said, “What happened in Ikere-Ekiti is not an isolated incident. It is part of a larger, disturbing trend by the APC to intimidate, harass, and suppress opposition voices ahead of the 2026 elections.

“Rather than engage with the electorate on policies and ideas, the APC is choosing violence. This is a dangerous and unacceptable path.”

The party accused the APC of weaponizing poverty and fear to maintain control, calling on residents to reject what it termed a growing culture of political thuggery and impunity.

It further called on security agencies, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), civil society organizations, traditional rulers, and religious leaders to urgently intervene before the situation spirals out of control.

“The APC is playing with fire. If this dangerous trend continues unchecked, Ekiti may be plunged into needless bloodshed ahead of 2026,” Omolayo warned.

Positioning itself as a credible alternative, the ADC reaffirmed its commitment to a people-centered agenda built on peace, inclusiveness, and sustainable development.

“Ekiti people must open their eyes to the truth. The APC offers nothing but violence and selfish ambition. Our state deserves a future built on vision, stability, and hope — not fear and bloodshed,” the party stated.

The ADC urged citizens, especially the youth, to resist being used as instruments of violence by desperate politicians, insisting that the 2026 elections must be a contest of ideas, not intimidation.
