Accord Party debunks reported division

Osun State

Accord Party in Osun State has dismissed claims of internal crisis, insisting it remains united and stable.

This clarification comes amid rumours circulating about Governor Ademola Adeleke’s alleged plan to defect to Accord before December 13.

In a statement signed by the Chairman of party’s Caretaker Committee, Pastor Victor Akande, the party condemned what it described as a “fabricated and misleading” legal action initiated against its leadership by Daniel Edeachi, which it vowed to formally report to the Legal Practitioners’ Disciplinary Committee (LPDC).

Akande said the suit—FCT/CV/4955/2025—filed on behalf of one Oliver Bitrus and reported by a national newspaper, was based on falsehoods, including claims that a Federal High Court recognized Prof. Chris Imumolen as National Chairman of Accord.

He insisted the claims were deliberately engineered to mislead the public:

“This is a conspiracy sponsored by wicked and desperate politicians to distract our party.

“No court ever affirmed the suspension of Maxwell Mgbudem as National Chairman. The case was dismissed last year and has not been appealed till date.”

Akande also dismissed assertions that Chief Okey Nwosu was suspended as Deputy National Chairman, noting that the individual never held such a position in the party.

He described Edeachi’s conduct as “gross misconduct and an embarrassing display of unprofessionalism,” saying the lawyer failed to conduct even basic due diligence before filing a suit “built entirely on imagination and propaganda.”

Despite what he described as desperate attempts to distract the party, Akande reaffirmed Accord’s preparedness for the 2026 Osun Governorship Primaries.

He revealed that the National Working Committee (NWC) held its meeting earlier in the week, while the National Executive Committee (NEC)—the highest decision-making organ—has: constituted a caretaker committee for Osun State. It has also:

  • appointed Akande as Chairman;
  • approved electoral guidelines for the 2026 primaries;
  • set up an Electoral Committee for the exercise, and
  • passed a vote of confidence on the NWC led by National Chairman Maxwell Mgbudem

Akande quoted the National Chairman as reiterating that Accord will not tolerate any action capable of destabilizing the party:

“Discipline remains a core value of our political family. We will apply it firmly to protect the integrity of our collective mandate.”

He called on members and supporters to remain calm, united, and focused as the party moves steadily toward its forthcoming primary election.
