Continuing from yesterday…
2.) Comfort may lead to a redirection in the wrong path. The challenges David faced were not in the plan of God for his life, it was comfort that led to such. In fact God told David outright that his actions embarrassed Him in view of what He (God) had done for him :*
2 Samuel 12:7-11 : “And Nathan said to David, Thou art the man. Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, I anointed thee king over Israel, and I delivered thee out of the hand of Saul; [8] And I gave thee thy master’s house, and thy master’s wives into thy bosom, and gave thee the house of Israel and of Judah; _and if that had been too little_, I would moreover have given unto thee such and such things. [9] Wherefore hast thou despised the commandment of the LORD, to do evil in his sight? thou hast killed Uriah the Hittite with the sword, and hast taken his wife to be thy wife, and hast slain him with the sword of the children of Ammon. 10] Now therefore the sword shall never depart from thine house; because thou hast despised me, and hast taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be thy wife. 11] Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will raise up evil against thee out of thine own house, and I will take thy wives before thine eyes, and give them unto thy neighbour, and he shall lie with thy wives in the sight of this sun”.
May I shock you with this fact? David, because of his mismanagement of comfort, allowed the sword of the enemy from the nation of AMMON to kill Uriah. Do you know that the first child to be killed among the children of David was his first son – AMNON. He was killed by his half brother, Absalom for raping his sister – Tamar (2 Sam 13:1-end)
3) Comfort may turn the comfortable to a proud fellow. There are several people out there whose behaviours takes on the dimension of pride after comfort had set in.
4) Comfort may even make a fellow deny the existence of God – Prov 30:9 – “Lest I be full, and deny thee, and say, Who is the LORD? or lest I be poor, and steal, and take the name of my God in vain”.
5) Comfort may turn an individual into a lazy drone or a lackadaisical fellow. And with the general attitude of the lazy or the lackadaisical, nothing progressive will come out of such a life the moment pride sets in.
6) Comfort may make the comfortable less engaging, thereby developing health issues as a result. Body exercises are highly beneficial for our health. 1Tim 4:8 “For bodily exercise profiteth little”. Even the little mentioned here is a plus for human health.
By every positive standard, God wants what is good for us, including comfort. The question therefore is WHAT IS OUR INDIVIDUAL ATTITUDE TOWARDS THE ENGAGEMENT OF COMFORT AROUND US?
