What could be behind the mind of Solomon or his team of wisemen that wrote the great collection known as the “Book of Proverbs” to communicate the exhortation below to us :
Proverbs 30:[8] “Remove far from me vanity and lies: give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with food convenient for me”:
[9]”Lest I be full, and deny thee, and say, Who is the LORD? or lest I be poor, and steal, and take the name of my God in vain”.
Among other intentions, it was a WARNING to us all that though COMFORT is good, it is however dangerous because of the likely challenges of unbridled comfort.
Comfort is good, as it makes life better and convenient for us to live in.
But whosoever is comfortable, must be careful not to allow comfort to ensnare him or her.
Comfort has ensnared several people to their chagrin, peril and at times, setbacks or even destruction.
Should it not surprise you that it was while at home, enjoying the comfort of the palace, at a time Kings were expected to be leading the army of their nations to battle, that King David saw from the top of the palace, a naked woman bathing herself – 2 Sam 11:1-3.
This was the same David that fought from mountain to mountain, and cave to cave, but never committed such a terrible act of unrighteousness as he did in the case of his adultery with Bathsheba, the wife of Uriah.
Most of the time, the comfortable person lives under the influence of comfort, instead of engaging the items of comfort to further his potentials and performance.
Let me discuss another example. Several people are today addicted to their phones and ended up NOT having time for their quiet-time or to read their Bible, when there could be many versions of the same Bible on their phone for their edification.
To continue tomorrow, God willing.
Top of the day to you
